Romane Garant Chartrand
Romane Garant Chartrand is a young filmmaker from Montreal, with a bachelor’s degree in cinema from UQÀM and a diploma in film scriptwriting. With a sensitive eye and a benevolent approach, she approaches cinema with the aim of raising the voices of those who are silenced. Her work explores the relationship between adolescence and the many struggles waged anonymously by women and under-represented groups.Her graduation film, Love-Me (2021), stood out at some twenty festivals and won several awards. Upon graduation, she was selected by the National Film Board of Canada’s Repêchage initiative to direct her first short documentary in a professional context, Afterwards (2023), which had its world premiere at the Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal and its international premiere at the Festival de court-métrage de Clermont-Ferrand. She is currently working on her next short documentary, Corps-à-corps, which has received support from SODEC’s emerging creation program.
