Synopsis

France 1936. Gerta, a young German photojournalist, lives in exile with her Hungarian companion, photographer André Friedmann. Because of the prevailing xenophobia, no newspaper would publish them. When civil war breaks out in Spain, they are determined to cover events to fight fascism. When the newspapers refuse to send them to the front, Gerta decides to invent a new identity for them.
