About
Soufiane Adel
Soufiane Adel was born in Algeria in 1981 and moved to France at the age of 8. It was while attending an industrial design school, ENSCI - Les Ateliers, that he discovered cinema. In 2004, he decided to film his father: this would be his first short film, "Nuits closes", which debuted at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. In 2007, he directed "Kamel s'est suicidé six fois, son père est mort", which was selected for the Directors' Fortnight and the ACID in Cannes in 2008. In 2009, he co-directed "Sur la tête de Bertha Boxcar" with Angela Terrail, which won the Jury Prize at the Silhouette Festival and was broadcast on Arte. In 2013, he directed his second documentary, "Go Forth", about his Algerian grandmother, which was screened at dozens of international festivals. His exploration of fictional forms of self-filming continues with "Vincent V." and "Les Bonnes". In 2017, he again featured his father in a fictional film, "La Faim", followed by the essay "La lumière tombe". His latest short film "Le jour où j'étais perdu", starring Souleymane Sylla and Damien Bonnard, debuts in competition at IFFR Rotterdam and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
