About
Ovidie
Ovidie is a writer and director of fiction and documentaries, with a doctorate in literature and film studies, specializing in questions of the body, feminisms and sexualites.Initially part of the pro-sex feminist movement, in the late 90s she began to speak out in favor of better representation of women on screen. At the age of 19, she began directing a series of adult fictions for Canal +. All her films revolved around strong female characters.
She then distanced herself from this movement, and from 2010 turned to directing documentaries (France 2, Arte, Canal +) and radio series (France Culture). Shortlisted for the Albert Londres Prize in 2018, she was also awarded the Amnesty International Prize the same year.
Since 2018, she has returned to fiction with two short films (Canal +, France 2) and the 8-episode series "Des Gens Bien Ordinaires" (Canal +), a dystopia where gender and power relations are reversed.
