About
Fanny Ardant
Fanny Ardant is a French actress, director, screenwriter, and theater director. She first came to prominence playing the role of Fanny Vilatte in Nina Companeez’s TV series Les Dames de la côte (1979), a critical success that launched her career. Two years later, she played the lead role in François Truffaut’s La Femme d’à côté, which earned her a César Award nomination for Best Actress. A leading figure in French cinema since the 1980s, she has since divided her career between television, theater, and film. Appearing in several popular films such as Le Colonel Chabert (1994), Ridicule (1996), and Huit Femmes (2002), she also worked with numerous renowned directors, including François Truffaut, Agnès Varda, Sydney Pollack, Yves Angelo, Maïwenn, and Jean Becker. In 1997, she won the César Award for Best Actress for Pédale douce, followed in 2020 by the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for La Belle Époque: in total, she has been nominated six times for the César Awards, twice for the Lumières de la presse internationale, and twice for the Molière Awards.
