Short to feature programs

Every year, we enjoy highlighting the careers of filmmakers as they make the transition from short films to feature-length films.

This program, which is particularly dear to us, allows us to welcome filmmakers who often first appeared at Off-Courts early in their careers, and thus to present retrospectives of their still-developing careers. Since the short film is an art form in its own right, it’s fascinating to see how a filmmaker evolves from short to feature-length films.

This year, we’ll be welcoming a French female director and a Quebecois director for two special screenings followed by Q&A sessions.

Short-To-feature France

Monday, september 7 at 2pm

Winner of the Unifrance Award at Off-Courts in 2023 for Queen Size, we instantly became friends when we met Avril in September!

Avril Besson, in addition to being truly talented, is a generous person who is open to others. She loves talking about film and has a natural ability to easily convey her enthusiasm.

So we’re very happy to welcome her back this year with her first feature film, Les matins merveilleux.

Short-To-Feature Quebec

Wednesday, september 9 at 8pm

Screenwriter, director, producer, and co-director of Sans rancœur films, Jonathan Beaulieu-Cyr has established himself over the past several years as one of the most promising voices in Quebec cinema.

A regular at Off-Courts, he has had four of his films selected for the festival over the years: as a director with Ferraille (2015) and Pisser dehors (2017), and as a co-producer with Florida-Montréal (2017)—directed by Renaud Lessard and winner of the Best Quebec Short Film Award at Trouville—as well as with Écume (2021), directed by Omar Elhamy.

It is therefore with great pleasure that we finally welcome Jonathan for the screening of Phénix (2025), his first feature-length film directed solo.

27th Off-Courts Trouville from September 5 to 11, 2026
